The worst advocate work is having to advocate for yourself. No one wants to fucking listen.

This is why it is vital fro men to be leading the fight on abuse.

White people should be leading the fight for the rights of PoC.

Cis/straight people should be on the front lines advocating for the LGBTQ community.

You have to fight for your neighbor.

@GinnyMcQueen I'm worried that people are going to take "leading" in the sense of "making decisions"

@GinnyMcQueen Ehh I'm with you on men helping to fight abuse, but yea.

For marginalized community, like the LGBTQ community and PoC, I find it's better for cishet, white people, etc, to amplify our voices rather than represent us or speak over us.

Allow us to be heard, support us, etc. Don't lead the charge – be part of it.

But yea, this is kind of a different topic than harassment/abuse. Just wanted to get that out there.

@Eris Oh for sure, how these fights are won are very different. Like, we need white faces at BLM events. But white people should not be in charge of said events.

@GinnyMcQueen Underappreciated fight: youth rights. Few adults advocate even though they've all been there. Kids don't even have legal rights to advocate for themselves most of the time, yet are forced to advocate for themselves in the most dire situations (e.g. trying to get disability services, arguing over grades which determine college/career).

Why no climate change policy? Why don't we fix criminal justice? Why no Social Security/Medicare reform? Because youth lack rights+power.

@jbbdude I was in the CASA program (court advocates for children in the system) and I very much agree.

@jbbdude That was confusing. I mean I was a volunteer advocate who worked with kids in the system.
