Got my valve amplifiers on a shelf at last. They have been collecting dust on the floor for nearly 2 years. I hoping this cheap unit can take the weight. I’d hate to spring for two matched sets of output tubes!
@BobTarte they sound pretty good. They match the Quad 11 speakers well. Very detailed in the voice register. I used to have the speakers biamped with a class D on the tweeters. I found the set up too fiddly though.
I’ve had the output transformers rewound to better match the 6ohm speakers and to try and sort out a phasing problem I had.
I’ve designed and built auto-biasing of the outputs. But haven’t installed that yet.
@John I couldn't have done any of that. I am not the least bit technically inclined. Weirdly enough, my day job is writing/editing Web and catalog copy for an online hi-fi products retailer. I've been doing it since around 1999. The company is called Audio Advisor. They don't carry much tube gear, just a few pieces from Woo Audio, Vincent, and a couple of other companies.
@John Wow, monoblocks? How do they sound? They are in boxes, but I have a VTL 50/50 valve amp and a Dynaco tube preamp. Haven't heard them for years. When we had bunnies, loud music scared them, and I've gotten used to listening to music through headphones.
