next years’ focus in my English 2 classroom: Reading.
I know that doesn’t sound revolutionary, but with the focus on standardized testing, we’ve been making them practice their writing more than anything else.
in a school year, my sophomores wrote 12 essays, 2 narratives, and a research paper. to facilitate this writing, they read 7 whole class novels.
they only read one book of choice.
only about 12% of my sts self-identify as readers.
@allianora students need agency in order to buy into their own learning. my hope is that more choice novels will encourage them to own it.
the first step is me, though. I need to be reading more and sharing that with my students.
