time for a new #introduction / #introductions toot
my name is ginger, I am new to kitty.town!! my bio has a decent amount about myself, but I am from twitter and have been harassed to the point where it's just not safe over there so i left.
I am a counseling student and professional, but my account is mainly personal things throughout my day and complaining and migrating through capitalism with mental health issues
I love #selfies, #StevenUniverse, #astrology, #gaming / #gameing, and #pigs
@GinnyMcQueen thank you for having me!!! i am happy to be here finally.
@gingerrroot Wow, you're so pretty!
I think I was following your old account, but welcome non-the-less. :3
It's very cool that you're studying counseling. Is there a particular population you want to work with?
@Sparrow omg thank u!!! i appreciate the compliments and welcome!
yes :) I really love teens and young adults. i'm hoping to get my guidance counseling certification (or an equivalent) and do title Ix work and counsel in schools. ideally, middle/high school. but colleges are just fine for me as well.
@gingerrroot You're welcome! :D
That sounds super cool! That's a good (albeit difficult) age group to work with. Is Title IX just about discrimination in sports based on gender or does it extend to other activities too?
I work in special education myself, but I went to school for psychology so I'm always interested in what people are doing in the world of counseling.
@Sparrow
Title IX extends to sexual discrimination anywhere in the school, which also encompasses sexual violence. I was working in higher ed doing Title IX work for the past few years before I moved back home in the fall. It's something I really love and feel very comfortable with.
oh nice!!! that's so cool and great, and having a psych background I am sure is often helpful.
@gingerrroot Oh cool! Yeah, that is definitely important and much needed work. I wish you good luck in your field. :)
Yeah, it definitely is!! It helps a lot to have a basic understanding of the kinds of disabilities my students have, how to best communicate with them, and how to address any behavior issues that might come up.
@Sparrow thank you very much! I appreciate that, truly.
yes yes yes, that's awesome. I am sure your students (and probably parents!) appreciate that, even if they're not always able to show it. You are doing some important work, too. Psych is so important, even outside of fields that qualify as "mental health" in my opinion--all teachers (even outside special ed!) could benefit.
@gingerrroot Hello and welcome to Ktown. A good friend of mine was a counselor for many years. From what I could see it was a difficult and important career. Best of luck to you.
See you around the town.
@awedjob thank you so much!! 💖
@gingerrroot welcome!! I think you'll love this instance, I certainly do :)
Your pictures are gorge btw
@noxy tysm for the welcome and compliment 😭💖💖💖 i appreciate both.
@windmills thank you!!
