What does all this mean? Short-term, if nothing changes, I'm three times more likely than the average to just not wake up tomorrow. But change is inevitable and even a small worsening changes those odds substantially, so more invasive investigations are being scheduled - another CT scan, with liver and bone marrow biopsies. Then we work to control it. Then we fix the damage done.

There's good news though, even with this new diagnosis. First, there's a rare genetic element that's likely causing my issue, so it's not due to anything stupid I've done. Second, my NHS-provided specialist just happens to be one of the World's authorities on this particular anomaly, and it was his mentor that initial discovered it. Third, it shines a really bright light on what led to my Dad's death - it could possibly have been the same thing, at least in part.

Today I saw the specialist regarding Problem X. They asked if I'd heard the results, and then started looking into why an earlier test had given a false positive.

Then they went silent for a while.

And then they said "oh, I think there's been a bit of a mistake here..."

...

And the one time I turn up to an appointment knowing spoilers becomes the one time I leave with actual concern for my future mortality.

Fuck.

I have myriad health issues. I currently see three different specialists on a varied schedule, and as it happens I'm seeing all three in the space of a month. Last week I saw one and they gave me their interpretation of the results from one of the others as there's some overlap as to the areas of concern - normally I don't find anything out until I see the right people, but this was an important exception due to the implication was that I didn't have Problem X.
