someone buy a mall with me so we can turn it into this amazing commit resource center with counseling, career counseling, shelter for homeless/houseless people, legal aid, etc etc etc
maybe even a community garden in the vast amount of parking spaces
@eryn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this makes my heart so happy and i'm so thankful that it's being done somewhere. if i'm ever in your area, i would be happy to help
@gingerrroot network of independant co-ops for the win!
I'm 100% on board with resource sharing, and we've got a full height server rack for the backend crap, and a multi-gigabit fibre backbone going in sometime later this summer.
Talk to @woozle she is helping coordinate. I've gotta keep focused so I'm closing Mastodon but...stay strong, we've won, they just don't know it yet.
@eryn @woozle @gingerrroot any chance you'd like to host some web services? I'd love to give money to a co-op hosting company.
:~)
This is a thing I have been interested in doing, and we've discussed it a little. Tell me more?

(Not sure if @gingerrroot is still interested in this thread...?)
@woozle @christianbundy @eryn i do not mind being involved at all!
Sorry, I'm unclear -- was the question addressed to me or Tessa?
If me: I need to rent servers with reasonable connectivity and uptime, and I'd way rather spend money supporting a co-op rather than a conventional hosting business.
For reference, here's the infrastructure for a local (PDX) hosting company that I use:
@christianbundy @gingerrroot @woozle I need to talk to my local telephone co-op (SMTA of Scio, Oregon) about co-location services before I can offer reliable stuffs for something of your scale, but I'm adding that to my list for Wednesday afternoon or Thursday this week (the 13th or 14th of June).
...I need to get a shared calendar set up and my servers are in cold storage for moving rn, Woozle can I get you to set up a Radicale instance for me?
https://radicale.org/
Sounds great, there's no rush on my end but I love to spend money at co-ops whenever I can. Good luck! Excited to hear how it goes.
@eryn I can't seem to get it working, but I've only tried one install method so far. Running out of time for today, though.
I have a calendar on NextCloud already -- is Radicale better?
@woozle
significantly better, yes.
Minimalistic and focused on doing one thing well, is the benefit.
I can set up an instance on a local raspi after I finish my meetings.
Thanks for poking it, I will keep you updated.
@gingerrroot There's a lot of repurposing of malls in consideration -- usually as communities with housing and shopping. It's not a horrible idea.
(Other than I *hate* malls)
@gingerrroot I've got a location, just working on finishing out the contracts before going public.
It's an old hardware store on the main street of a nearly-dead town, so if I bring in a dozen people, we can functionally own the entire town, making it possible to rapidly expand, and the local food pantry has offered meals to all my people, and I have buy-in from multiple local farming co-ops.
This is happening.
